About Kathe
Expertise

I have practiced physical therapy since 1976, focusing on pelvic floor issues since 1988. As a nationally recognized leader in the pelvic floor specialty of physical therapy, I evaluate and treat many types of conditions referred to me by medical specialists in orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, urology, gynecology, gastroenterology and colorectal surgery.
My undergraduate training at UCLA in Kinesiology (the study of human movement) complements my physical therapy practice. I have a special interest in assessing for faulty movement patterns, muscle dysfunction, and posture or joint alignment problems that can impair recovery from surgery or low back, hip, sacroiliac and pelvic pain conditions in women and men.
For 15 years I practiced at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, where I was able to learn from many doctors, nurses and midwives and was honored with the Center's Outstanding Employee award in 1991. I have served as the Washington state representative for the Section on Women's Health of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). In 2006, I was honored to receive the state physical therpay association (PTWA) Clinical Excellence Award.
I provide training and continuing education for professional development through the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute (http://HermanWallace.com). Since 1990, I have been teaching physical therapists to do what I do. This requires that I stay current on research and techniques that affect the medical conditions I treat.
Besides training others, I complete over 40 hours per year of continuing education - twice the amount required for my professional licensing. I have authored articles in the APTA Gynecological Manual published in 1997 and Clinics in Sports Medicine, The Athletic Woman in 1994.
My extensive experience means that I can usually treat your problem with fewer appointments.
