This Boost Camp one-day intensive pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) seminar is designed for pelvic floor physical therapists. You will learn advanced techniques to expand your repertoire of pelvic floor examination of fascial identification and support, and treatment ideas and progressions for prolapse, incontinence and some types of pelvic pain.
The seminar includes a pre-course home study module that will provide resources in anatomy (from the vocal cords and glottal structures to the pelvic floor facial support) and symptom manifestation of pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Reading also includes extensive review of pessary guidelines and medical diagnostic, surgery and assessment techniques. Review of this information will allow the one-day seminar to focus on examination techniques and treatment.
The morning lab will include internal vaginal and rectal examination techniques for anterior, posterior and apical support changes, including assessment for levator ani avulsion and identification of external perineal measurements used for prolapse quantification. You will learn appropriate examination instruction and the difference of summarizing your findings for the patient and for your medical records.
Afternoon lab time will focus on musculoskeletal functional evaluation and treatment. The focus will be on management of intra- abdominal pressure with attention to postures and the glottis, breathing and pelvic diaphragms. We will review the current research on the benefits of lifestyle intervention and pelvic floor exercise that will help you formulate the best comprehensive rehab approach that empowers the women to be active. These techniques can also apply to your patients with incontinence and some types of pelvic pain.

Prior training in internal pelvic floor examination. Prerequisite assignments (home study module) issued upon registration. Independent review and study are required to prepare for the boost camp seminar. You will also be asked to bring a few personal supplies.
Pelvic Floor CEU Teaching Level
Designed for intermediate to advanced physical therapists and PTA's. Pregnant women should have a release letter from their primary obstetrics provider for internal evaluation participation. Participants will practice exam techniques on one another. Content is not intended for use outside the scope of the learner's license or regulation.
This has two components, a home self-study module, and a live seminar.
Home study module includes articles, guideline reviews, website links and online videos (included with course registration). This independent preparation for the course could apply to your state CEU requirement. i.e. WA state Continuing Competency Requirements. Check your state specific qualifications.
Upon competition of the POP home study module the participant will be able to:
- List key patient history and 2 questionnaires that will identify sx and risk factors for POP.
- Name 3 key visceral fascia anatomy structures important for pelvic organ support
- Review the indications and use of 3 specific pessary types for POP.
- Describe 2 common findings with the diagnostic tests of POP-Q, MR defecography and levator ani avulsion.
- Describe 2 psychosocial patient perspectives on POP.
- Complete literature reviews (summaries and/or links provided)
- Review the POP literature (summaries and links provided) regarding Intra-abdominal Pressure (IAP).
- Review POP surgery approaches and updates on the use of mesh.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
- Describe symptom presentations in 6 types of POP as they relate to fascial support.
- List the 3 modifiable conditions that could affect the results of prolapse examination.
- Palpate with internal vaginal examination for levator ani avulsion, the ATLA, and the ATFP.
- Perform pelvic floor examinations, internal vaginal (with 1/2 speculum) for fascia support evaluation and external POP-Q measurements (gh and pb) using evidence-based instructions.
- State 5 prolapse self-care/lifestyle intervention strategies for POP.
- Assess and teach breathing and IAP management in conjunction with therapeutic exercise and functional activity programs for pelvic floor dysfunction and POP.
