The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) Committee on Obstetric Practice acknowledges a need to change the focus of postpartum care. A committee opinion, released from the Presidential Task Force on Redefining the Postpartum Visit, supports postpartum care as an ongoing process, rather than an isolated visit.
To provide comprehensive care, seven components of postpartum care have been outlined. Physical recovery, one of the seven components, includes referrals to physical therapy. Let’s improve obstetric care by increasing the focus on women and their postpartum care.
